I struggled with anxiety and depressive episodes for quite some time myself. Today I know that I didn't understand what was causing it (even after therapy at age 22), although I thought I did. With my mom being a Hypnotherapist herself, hypnosis has been the tool which led me out of it. What I know understand today, however, is that I learned behavioral patterns in my childhood and adolescence that I used to protect myself. I needed them to survive because I had no other means to deal with the stress and anxiety I was experiencing. As I grew older I subconsciously held on to them because they had become a part of me.



THE PROBLEM IS...

With each day we live, we make new experiences, we gain knowledge, we grow, we consider ourselves adults (more or less), BUT we still act according to certain patterns we learned when we were young. We are often unaware of them, repress our feelings and stick to the problematic behavior we engage in because it has existed within us for so long it has become part of our identity,


WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?


We allow our mind to manipulate us by avoiding the traumatic and stressful times we have experienced in our lives, because we are afraid of the pain the truth might bring. Self-manipulation goes as far as us telling ourselves we don't understand why we feel so unhappy, sad, confused, or whatever it is that makes us uncomfortable in our lives. We tell ourselves that we can't see a "real" reason for the situation we are in and that we shouldn't feel that way.


Every time something in the present triggers a memory of our past, we still react in the same way we did when we first experienced a similar event.
